ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has reserved its judgement on the matter of appointment of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) after hearing arguments of Deputy Attorney General (DAG).

A single member bench of IHC comprising Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani took up the case for hearing on Wednesday.

Giving arguments on the petition of Senator Azam Swati, DAG Rashid Hafiz told the court that the appointment of the national carrier’s CEO Musharraf Rasul Cyan was made in contrary to the rules and regulations. The procedure in place has not been adopted in regard to this appointment, he added.

Hafiz said the caretaker government had deferred this matter till the induction of new government, adding that the newly elected government has not taken any decision with regard to the appointment of PIA CEO.

The DAG further said that the PIA case is pending hearing in Supreme Court (SC) as well. The SC is going to take up this case for hearing on September 3, 2018.

He prayed the court to issue an order regarding the PIA CEO case before the hearing is taken up by the top court.

Judge Kiyani inquired as to why the matter should not be referred to the cabinet.

The court later reserved its judgement.
