MANCHESTER: Sir Alex Ferguson is following in the footsteps of Pep Guardiola after agreeing to take part in a documentary detailing his extraordinary life, reported UK newspaper Mirror.
The former Manchester United manager, who is continuing to recover well after suffering a life-threatening brain hemorrhage in May, has been working on the project for the past two years after being approached by the award-winning independent film company Passion Pictures.
Guardiola agreed to open the doors of Manchester City for the Amazon documentary ‘All or Nothing’ last season as the Blues romped to the Premier League title in record-breaking fashion.
But the Ferguson film promises to be even more in-depth.
It will be directed by Ferguson’s son, Jason and will have exclusive and unrestricted access to the 76-year-old as well as his family and closest friends.
The documentary will detail Fergie’s childhood in Glasgow, his career as an uncompromising center-forward with Rangers, Queens Park, St Johnstone, Dunfermline, Falkirk, and Ayr, as well as his rise, to become one of the greatest managers the game has ever known with East Stirling, St Mirren, Aberdeen, and United.
Ferguson was quoted by the American online magazine Deadline Hollywood as saying: “I have been approached many times over the years to make a film on my life but did not feel comfortable until this point.
“When the team behind this project was presented to me, and after we spent time discussing their thoughts and approach on what the film could be, I felt confident that I was in good hands.
“The process so far has been natural and enjoyable and I look forward to making the best film we can.”
Filming is scheduled to begin in October, but Jason Ferguson has already recorded 60 hours of audio interviews with his father.
Ferguson guided Aberdeen to three Scottish titles, four Scottish Cups, the Scottish League Cup and the European Cup Winners Cup before moving to Old Trafford in November 1986.
In the next 26 years he lifted 13 Premier League titles, won the Champions League twice, the FA Cup five times, four League Cups and the European Cup Winners Cup.
The documentary will also chart Ferguson’s life in retirement – including his health scare earlier this summer.
United have not won the title since the Scot stepped down in 2013.
