The government has been urged to conduct elections for provincial assembly seat in the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) as soon as possible to douse the sense of deprivation in the region, a local media outlet reported on Tuesday.
The recommendation was made at a conference organised by Abasyn University and attended by academics, parliamentarians and other community leaders.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member National Assembly (MNA) said that the government will hasten the merger process.
The merger process is expected to result in challenges but also provide a number of opportunities, an expert said.
FATA Lawyers Forum President Rahim Shah said that locals in the area have high expectations from the new PTI-led government and that it should devise a clear road-map regarding the merger.
