Peshawar University of Agriculture officials suspended for manhandling student

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar’s University of Agriculture on Tuesday suspended the administrative officer and security head for physically assaulting a student.

The action was taken after a video of the incident went viral on social media. In the video, the admin officer can be seen abusing, assaulting and threatening the student by pointing a gun at him.

Taking notice of the incident, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) interim Governor Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani ordered an inquiry into the matter and directed the varsity to submit a report.

Another student, while speaking to a local media outlet on the condition of anonymity, said that the incident took place when the student was waiting for the admission renewal process in the auditorium hall.

He claimed that the administrative official called out another student’s name ignoring the queue on which the victim student had protested. It was his protest that was met the official’s violent behaviour.

The educational institution’s administration suspended the two officials and formed a committee to probe the incident. The university also provided relief to the students in the admission process by launching a one-window operation.
