ISLAMABAD: The oath-taking ceremonies of nominated governors for the provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have been delayed due to the presidential elections.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Chaudhry Sarwar had to take oath as governor of Punjab on Tuesday while Shah Farman was scheduled to be sworn in as governor of KP on Monday.

However, as the electoral college of president involves the members of Senate and provincial assemblies, both the nominated governors preferred not to resign from their seats.

Sarwar was elected as a Senator in the recently held Senate elections while Shah Farman won from PK-71 seat. As PTI’s Arif Alvi is running for presidential elections scheduled for September 4, both the lawmakers have decided to relinquish their office after casting vote.

Alvi would be confronting Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) nominee Aitzaz Ahsan and divided opposition’s candidate Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

However, Alvi is expected to become the next president of Pakistan, replacing Mamnoon Hussain on September 9.
