Just a day after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced the list of 23-member Punjab cabinet, one of the new cabinet members–provincial information and culture minister Fayazul Hassan– has drawn the ire of social media users for calling Germany’s Nazi Party leader Adolf Hitler as one of his “favourite rulers”.
Later, however, he changed his bio by removing the name of Hitler from it, which now reads: “زندگی کا مقصد۔۔ناموس رسالت،ناموس پاکستان اور ناموس عوام کا تحفظ۔۔!! پسندیدہ حکمران۔۔سیدنا حضرت عمر فاروق ۔۔!! جیو علی کی طرح اور شہید ھو حسین کی طرح۔
Earlier in the day, social media users pointed out a rather unique Twitter bio of the new minister, where he has mentioned Adolf Hitler, along with Hazrat Umar (RA), as his ‘favourite ruler’. The old bio read:
زندگی کا مقصد۔۔ناموس رسالت،ناموس پاکستان اور ناموس عوام کا تحفظ۔۔!! پسندیدہ حکمران۔۔حضرت عمر فاروق اور ایڈولف ھٹلر۔۔!! جیو علی کی طرح اور شہید ھو حسین ” کی طرح!
Fayaz is famous for his aggressive political statements against other parties on news channels.
In general election 2018, he won the seat from PP-17, Rawalpindi. He received 40,919 votes and defeated Raja Abdul Hanif of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
Fayazul Hassan started his political career from Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) and won the provincial seat on party’s ticket in 2002 elections. He then joined Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) before 2008 general elections and lost the seat in PP-14, Rawalpindi to PML-N’s Hanif Abbasi.
