- Rehman asks PM Imran Khan to issue directives to Cabinet Division ‘at earliest’ for formation of committee
ISLAMABAD: Senator Rehman Malik on Sunday asked Prime Minister Imran Khan to establish a technical committee to investigate the failure of Results Transmission System (RTS) on polling day.
In a letter to the premier, Malik stated that Senate has entrusted the Standing Committee on Interior with looking after the proceedings of elections, and as the interior minister of the country Imran Khan is obliged to cooperate with the committee in the probe.
The committee has also asked the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to probe the failure of RTS, identify those responsible and suggest action against them, Malik further wrote, adding that it is in the national interest to investigate the RTS collapse and asked for directives to be issued to the Cabinet Division at the earliest to form a technical committee to investigate the issue.
Earlier, PTI inquiry into the RTS failure had held National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) responsible for the shutdown of the election results software on polling day.
The party had formed an investigating committee headed by PTI Parliamentary leader in the Senate Azam Swati to look into the RTS fault. The committee was also tasked with identifying those responsible and suggest action against them.
The team had said that there is proof the General Election 2018 was free and fair but that it has still recommended to carry out a forensic audit of the software failure.
