PTI’s Maliha Asghar among most affluent members of KP Assembly

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Maliha Ali Asghar Khan is among the richest members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly with assets equal to Rs930 million.

According to information submitted to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Maliha Ali, who hails from Mansehra, owns assets equaling Rs930 million.

On the other hand, PTI’s Asiya Khattak declared she possesses no assets, making her among the poorest members of the assembly elected on a reserved seat.

Maliha Ali earned a BA degree in Psychology and Political Science from the Federal College for Women, Rawalpindi and became a Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) on a reserve seat in 2013.

Asiya Khattak holds a masters degree in International Relations and completed her LLB from the University of Peshawar. She contested on PTI’s platform and was elected as the district councillor in local government elections.

On second place is Ayesha Bano who owns assets equal to Rs50 million. Awami National Party’s (ANP) Shagufta Malik holds assets worth Rs4.5 million while Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Nighat Orakzai’s assets include 290 tolas of gold.

One-third (45) lawmakers of the assembly have declared that they possess assets of cumulative worth between Rs11 million to Rs50 million while 20 per cent have assets of worth ranging from one to Rs10 million. The worth of around 9 per cent legislators’ assets ranges from Rs101 million to Rs500 million.

As many as two PTI legislators own declared assets worth more than a billion including the incumbent Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, who is the richest among provincial legislators with assets more than Rs2.5 billion. In addition, four legislators have assets of worth less than a million.

Out of the total number of incoming legislators, eight (6%) mentioned in their affidavits that they have criminal cases pending against them. Five of these belong to PTI while three to Awami National Party (ANP).

A total of 123 legislators in the Punjab Assembly possess assets of a cumulative worth between Rs11 million to Rs50 million while 59 legislators in the Sindh Assembly hold assets in equal worth.

As many as 33 legislators in the Punjab Assembly and 20 legislators in the Sindh Assembly have pending criminal cases.

Balochistan Assembly has 22 legislators holding assets of cumulative worth between Rs11 million to Rs50 million. A total of 10 legislators in the Balochistan Assembly have criminal cases pending against them.
