At least three police personnel were injured on Saturday when a counter-terrorism department’s (CTD) vehicle came under attack in Mastung.

The security forces have cordoned off the area and a bomb disposal squad has also been called at the crime scene. Meanwhile, the injured have also been shifted to a hospital.

Police said the statement will be given after an initial inquiry on the incident. The provincial government has appealed to the people residing near the site of the incident to remain calm and assist the authorities.

On Wednesday, unidentified armed men, riding a motorbike, opened fire at a man in the Kandawa area of Mastung and managed to escape.

Levies personnel said as a result, Sheikh Zayed Hospital, Quetta computer operator Muhammad Sadiq was killed on the spot. Later, Levies and other law enforcement agencies personnel reached the spot and shifted the body to a nearby hospital. The body was handed over to the heirs after completion of medico-legal formalities.

Law enforcement agencies in Balochistan have come under attack frequently. This is not the first time that such an attack has taken place as a gun attack on a police vehicle in Quetta’s Arbab Karam Khan Road area left one policeman dead and another injured in June.

On May 18, the provincial capital witnessed a major terrorist bid where five suicide bombers, attempting to storm the FC Madadgar Centre, were intercepted and killed by security forces.

On April 24, six policemen were killed and six others were injured in a suicide attack that targeted a police van on Airport Road in Quetta.

In January, seven people were killed on Quetta’s Zarghoon Road when a suicide bomber rammed into a parked police truck, injuring 16 people.
