PTI MPA slaps ‘child molester’ locked up in Karachi prison

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker in Sindh Assembly, Dua Bhutto, has slapped an alleged child molester locked up at the Superhighway Police Station, reported a private media outlet.

Last week, residents of Malir’s Khadim Goth locality caught suspect Fahim red-handed while he was trying to sexually assault a six-year-old girl. They handed him to the Superhighway police, but the police refused to lodge a case against the suspect on the grounds that the “parents of the girl had not registered a complaint”.

Taking notice of the issue, PTI leader Haleem Adil Sheikh instructed Dua to meet the family and assist them in the due legal process. On Sunday, she visited the police station to ensure that the suspect was arrested and a case was lodged against him on the complaint of the victim’s father, Naseem Abbas.

In a video making rounds over the internet, Dua can be seen asking the locked up accused to “stay quiet” and then slap him from the other side of the prison bars.

Speaking to the media outlet later, she said that the accused wanted to molest the minor girl in an empty plot but citizens rushed to the spot and caught the suspect. Dua said that it was a matter of grave concern that the police had refused to lodge the case.

“However, we have already ensured that a case is lodged against the accused and his arrest is made,” said the PTI lawmaker, adding that she was unable to share the witnesses’ account for it was horrible.

“We will extend all-out cooperation to the affected family so that justice could be doled out to them. We will raise a strong voice against child molestation on the floor of Sindh Assembly.”

Meanwhile, SSP Malir has taken notice of the incident and said that a report would be forwarded to the Karachi Police chief. He also said that a legal action would also be taken against Dua if necessary.
