A Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) worker was tortured to death in Pasrur tehsil for not supporting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) during the 2018 general elections, a local media outlet reported.
Police identified the victim as 30-year-old Imran who left his house on Monday morning but was intercepted by seven armed men who beat him with hockey sticks and iron rods. The men are alleged to be PTI workers who tortured the man for supporting the PML-N during the recently conducted general elections.
The men thought that Imran had died, threw his body close to a school and fled the scene. The victim was shifted to a hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
Phalora police have registered a case under sections 147, 149 and 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
While police claims that two of the suspects have been arrested, Imran’s aggrieved family staged a protest by placing the dead body on the Badiana-Pasrur-Zafarwal Road and chanted slogans against PTI.
Local police assured protesters of arresting those responsible and negotiated an end to protest.
