JAKARTA: Pakistan hockey team on Monday thrashed Thailand by 10-0 in its opening match of Asian Games.
The match, played at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Sports Complex in Jakarta, was dominated by the Pakistani team, who have won the tournament a record eight times.
Atiq Arshad scored a hat-trick, while his brother Tauseeq Arshad, Abu Bakr and Mohammad Irfan scored twice, while Mubashar Ali scored one goal.
Pakistan scored its first goal in last minutes of the first quarter when Tauseeq Arshad converted a penalty corner. Three more goals were scored by green shirts in the second quarter.
The national team found the net for six more times in the remaining two quarters taking the tally to 10-0.
Pakistan next play Oman on Wednesday.
