Another congo virus case emerges in Karachi

KARACHI: Another Congo virus case was reported in the city on Monday bringing the total number of cases to 9.

According to reports, 23-year-old Salman was taken to Jinnah Hospital in the city after he showed symptoms of the virus.

So far, the death toll of the patients of Congo virus in the city is at two, one of whom died in June.

The patient was admitted for treatment after testing positive for the Congo Crimean Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF), Director of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre Dr Seemin Jamali told a local media outlet.

Congo virus originates from African countries and spreads from ticks living in the skin of goats, cows, buffaloes, and camels. These ticks live on the blood of these animals.

The Congo virus patients suffer from fever, hunger, weakness, and swelling of eyes. The patient can also develop white cells deficiency immediately and start bleeding, which may cause death.
