Darul Aman officials suspended over missing girl in DG Khan

DERA GHAZI KHAN: Local Darul Aman’s lady warden Shehnaz and security guard Abdur Rasheed were suspended on Sunday for allowing a teenage girl to go missing from the shelter.

The directives of their suspension were issued by Social Welfare Department Deputy Director Zakauddin Buzdar.

He has written to the district police officer to take action against personnel deployed for security at Darul Aman.

On Saturday, a video emerged on social media, showing a woman screaming as unnamed men attempted to take her to an undisclosed location in Dera Ghazi Khan. In the video, men who introduced themselves as officials of Darul Aman could be seen dragging her on Jam Pur road in Dera Ghazi Khan.

Police had also said that the woman claimed that she was raped at Darul Aman. Later, the girl went missing.

Deputy Commissioner Ali Akbar Bhatti took immediate notice of the incident and appointed Additional Deputy Commissioner Mian Iqbal Mazhar and the assistant commissioner as investigation officers. He had instructed them to submit a report on an immediate basis.

The team had reached Darul Aman and recorded statements of concerned staff members and interrogated them over charges of negligence.

However, Deputy Commissioner Ali Akbar Bhatti had expressed his dissatisfaction over the report presented to him and ordered an inquiry from scratch. He had also issued orders for the assessment of people responsible.

Later, the police had arrested two suspects, identified as Kamran and Ashraf, over alleged involvement in the reported kidnapping of the girl. They were arrested and are being held at City Kohropaka police station, while a third suspect is still at large
