Congratulatory messages pour in as Imran wins PM election

Following Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s victory in election for premiership on Friday, congratulatory messages started pouring him and people from all walks of life congratulated him on getting elected as Pakistan’s 22nd premier.

British Prime Minister Theresa May called Imran and congratulated him on emerging victorious in July 25 polls. The British premier said that her government is ready to further strengthen and diversify bilateral diplomatic relations between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.

Imran expressed his gratitude to the British prime minister for her warm wishes. Both leaders agreed that money laundering is a huge issue for the developing economies, adding that Pakistan would desire to receive assistance from the UK to minimise money laundering.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang felicitated the Imran Khan and said he would like to work with him to jointly carry forward the traditional bilateral friendship, deepen the mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields and make unremitting efforts to build the China-Pakistan community of shared future.

In a message of congratulations sent to Imran Khan on Friday, the Chinese premier said, “I appreciate your positive remarks of firmly developing China-Pakistan relations. I look forward to establishing good working relations and personal friendship with you.”

Caretaker Prime Minister Justice (r) Nasirul Mulk also congratulated the PTI chief on his election as the prime minister.

World’s youngest Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai congratulated Imran Khan and his party for their electoral victory.

“I am encouraged and hopeful by his wish to ensure peace and prosperity in Pakistan and his focus on education for the children of Pakistan,” the 21-year-old said in a statement.

Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q) Chairman Chaudhry Shujat Hussain and Punjab Assembly Speaker Parvez Elahi also heartily greeted Imran Khan on getting elected as the prime minister.

Imran’s former ally in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly, Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Chairman Senator Sirajul Haq, while congratulating Imran, said that the PTI should now concentrate on its election manifesto and fulfil its election promises to the people.

He said, “I would like to express my heartfelt felicitation and good wishes to you upon your election as the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. I believe that you and your party will lead Pakistan to achieve new and more progress in the cause of national development.”
