ATC eases travel restrictions on Rao Anwar ahead of Eid

A Karachi Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Saturday accepted former Malir SSP Malir Rao Anwar’s request to travel outside the city to meet his family for Eid, a local media outlet reported.

The primary accused in Naqeebullah murder case had filed a request before the judge to permit him to travel outside Karachi, explaining that he is to receive family coming over from Dubai to celebrate Eidul Azha.

According to Anwar, due to security-related threats, it was not possible for him to celebrate Eid with his family in Karachi, hence, he should be allowed to travel outside the city.

Raising objections, the counsel for prosecution Salahuddin Panhwar said that the court is already entertaining a petition regarding the transfer of the case to another courtroom, and thus, should not pass a judgement on the plea by Anwar.

After hearing the arguments of both parties, the court accepted the plea of Rao Anwar, allowing him to travel outside the city for Eidul Azha.

Earlier, the court had also issued the orders of release on bail for former SSP Rao Anwar, the prime suspect in the Naqeebullah murder case.

The directive came a day after the court granted Anwar’s bail in a case pertaining to the use of illegal arms and explosives in the fake encounter which had killed Waziristan native Naqeebullah Mehsud.
