SHAKARGARH: A domestic helper and her husband, who were arrested by police under theft charges, were tortured and tied to a bed by policemen in a police station of Narowal’s Shakargarh Tehsil.

According to media reports, the suspect, Farwa Waqas, 22, a resident of Ikhlaspur Road was working as a domestic helper at Sheikh Shahbaz’s house.  Two days ago, Shehbaz lodged a complaint with the City Police Station, alleging Farwa and her husband Waqas of stealing a sum of Rs300,000 from his house.

Police registered a case against the suspects, arrested both and locked them in the barracks of the police station.

Both were later subjected to maltreatment, were handcuffed and tied to a bed.

Farwa has alleged that she and her husband were tortured by the policemen and no lady police officer was made a part of the investigation.

Station House Officer (SHO) concerned, Inspector Muhammad Azeem, has claimed that the suspects were kept in the barracks because rainwater had accumulated in the lock-up.
