Physiotherapists hope new KP govt sets up regulatory body

20,000 doctors of physiotherapy hope that the new Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government will set up a regulatory body which will allow them to treat people autonomously. They cannot treat patients independently due to the absence of a regulatory body.

The formation of the council would accelerate the development of physical therapy facilities in the province which is the only one to have them at the district level.

The federal cabinet had accorded in-principle approval for the establishment of the Pakistan Physical Therapy Council  (PPTC) in May.

KP had established the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) in Peshawar in September 2016. The province had also launched the  “Strengthening of Rehabilitation Programme for Physically Disabled” to treat patients of arthritis, back pain, knee joint pain, cerebral palsy, poliomyelitis and other outpatient procedures.
