A police inquiry into the killing of two students in Faisalabad has revealed that the picket where the killing occurred was manned by a terminated police constable and volunteer.
According to a report in a local media outlet, the incident has exposed poor supervision of subordinates by senior cops and the shortage of personnel available for such duties.
The report further stated that the volunteers were banned at pickets but the senior cops had still appointed one for the job.
Despite the fact that Faisalabad city has scores of senior police officers, including SSP (operations), SSP (investigation), five SPs of as many divisions – besides an SP of the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) – sources reveal that supervisory officers, instead of going into the field, prefer to depend on reports from their staff.
No action has been taken so far against Millat Town SHO who failed to supervise his subordinates.
Last week, the police had killed two students, Arsalan and Usman, in Millat Town claiming that the boys didn’t stop at the checkpoint and were killed in a crossfire.
However, a committee formed to probe the incident had declared police’s claims of ‘crossfire’ as wrong. The committee had found no criminal record against the boys.
