–PTI Karachi says Shah has not been suspended

KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Spokesman Fawad Chaudhry issued a statement on Thursday that the issue concerning Sindh MPA Dr Imran Ali Shah has been referred to the Sindh chapter of PTI.

“Clarification on road rage issue pertaining to Dr Imran Ali Shah. The matter is referred to PTI Sindh Chapter and they will inquire into the issue and appropriate action will be taken if needed,” he said.

PTI’s Karachi media department also clarified that, contrary to media reports, Shah had not been suspended.

PTI MPA Imran Shah drew strong backlash on the social media after a video of him brutally thrashing a citizen went viral on popular websites like Facebook and Twitter. A lot of people online demanded suspension of membership of the party leader while some called upon the party to withdraw him as a legislator from the provincial legislature.

The MPA was filmed slapping the man, identified as Dawood Chauhan, multiple times during a street altercation with his security guards around.

Shortly after the incident, the MPA had issued a video claiming that the man, whom he had beaten up, was misbehaving with another poor man on the street. “I got off my car and asked him what’s wrong, but he also hurled abuses on me and I just defended myself,” he had said.

But later he maintained silence on his first version and in a damage control, tendered apology to the citizen. Some other party leaders had reportedly taken Shah to Dawood’s residence to settle the issue.

After the video went viral, the PTI took notice of the incident and issued a show-cause notice to the MPA-elect. Senior party leader Firdous Naqvi had also tweeted that he had launched a probe.

The notice had demanded that Shah should present his version “within 24 hours” otherwise he would be referred to the disciplinary committee for appropriate action

On the other hand, Imran Ali Shah’s stepmother on Wednesday claimed that Imran and his brother Junaid had tortured her and her son in their father’s clinic.

Dr Rehana Shah, the second wife of Dr Muhammad Ali Shah, had told a private media outlet that she tied the knot with Imran’s father in 1989 but his first wife and their children did not accept the marriage.

She had alleged that Imran had taken over all properties after the death of Dr Muhammad Ali Shah and had threatened to harm Rehana.
