ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to put forward the name of Shah Farman as its nominee for the slot of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) governor.

The decision was taken on Thursday during a consultative meeting chaired by PTI chairman Imran Khan at his Bani Gala residence. Imran approved the nomination of Farman for the coveted post.

PTI Spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry later confirmed that his party has nominated Farman for the post of new KP governor.

Talking to media persons, he said the PTI chief, after taking the oath of the prime minister, will forward advice to the president for the appointment of new governors in KP, Punjab and Sindh. The PTI has already nominated Imran Ismail as Sindh governor and Chaudhry Sarwar as Punjab governor. The nomination of Farman will complete the political setup in the province.

He said Farman was the most suitable person to be appointed as KP governor and he would play his constitutional role effectively.

KP Governor have additional administrative responsibilities of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), he said, adding that an important part of PTI’s election campaign was about completing the process of FATA merger into KP and it would be fulfilled on a priority basis.

He said the PTI would take measures to address grievances of FATA people, besides raising voice for the rights of the people of tribal areas.

Farman served as the provincial information minister in the previous PTI-led government under then chief minister Pervez Khattak.

Farman had initially won the PK-70 and PK-71 constituencies of Peshawar in July 25 elections. However, he lost the PK-70 seat after a vote recount to Awami National Party (ANP) candidate Khushdil Khan.

Fawad Chaudhry said that Imran Khan would get maximum votes in the election of prime minister to be held on Friday.

Meanwhile, Fawad said Imran Khan would be elected as Prime Minister of the country in first round easily and there would be no need to go in second round.

He urged the opposition parties to do constructive politics in the Parliament rather creating agitation.

The PTI was ready to sit with the opposition parties to seek out the solution of their reservations regarding general elections, he added.

Earlier on Thursday, Mehmood Khan was elected as the new KP chief minister. He bagged 77 votes against 33 of Mian Nisar Gul of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA).

PTI candidate Mushtaq Ghani was elected as the new speaker of the K-P Assembly, while Mehmood Jan was elected as his deputy on Wednesday.
