Police book 30 for attacking PTI MPAs in Karachi

KARACHI: A case was registered by the police against more than 30 workers of different student organisations for attacking two provincial assembly members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

On the complaint of PTI Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Arsalan Taj, an FIR [First Information Report] was registered under Sections 147, 148, 149, 506-B, 342 and 427 at Mobina Town police station. Sections of rioting, harassment, and keeping the MPAs in illegal confinement have also been added. They were also charged with damaging personal property.

According to the police, the incident took place at University of Karachi.

According to Taj, he was returning with PTI’s MPA Adeel Ahmed after visiting the vice chancellor of varsity when at least 30 to 35 workers of Imamia Students Organisation, Islami Jamiat Taliba, People’s Student Federation attacked their car with stones and chanted slogans against the party.

Station House Officer Abdul Ghaffar said that the matter is under investigation.

The incident occurred just days after PTI’s MPA Imran Ali Shah hit a man in the middle of the road near National Stadium in Karachi. On facing backlash, the party issued a notice to Shah.
