Pakistan-born Mehreen Faruqi has become the first female Muslim Australian Senator.
Faruqi is a member of Australia’s Greens Party.
She had migrated to Australia from Pakistan in 1992.
Before becoming a politician, Faruqi earned a doctorate in environmental engineering.
Earlier in 2013, she was elected as a member of the state parliament.
