Tepid response from expatriate Pakistanis in funds established for Bhasha, Mohmand dams

ISLAMABAD: A tepid response was received from expatriate Pakistanis in the funds established for construction of Diamir Bhasha and Mohmand dams as they sent Rs6.92 million to the fund out of the total collection of Rs861 million.

The latest update issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Wednesday stated that total collection within Pakistan was recorded at Rs854.8 million.

The detail shows that the donation received Rs22.006 million on August 13, Rs87.4 million on August 09, Rs63.4 million on August 8 and Rs44.9 million on August 6.

Similarly, total donations received in the fund through various public and commercial banks on August 3 was Rs16.1 million, Rs21.3 million on August 2, Rs41.4 million on August 1 and  Rs66 million on July 31.

The country-wise data shows that out of the total donation received from within the country, Rs41.8 million was collected through SMS service, Rs21.24 million from Interbank transfer service whereas, an amount of Rs791.06 million was collected at bank branches.

Similarly, from the United States of America (USA), an amount of Rs1.451 million was received, while Rs1.01 million was received from the UK, Rs1.055 million from Germany, Rs0.664 million from UAE, Rs0.437 million from Canada, Rs0.478 million from Singapore and from the Netherlands an amount of Rs0.25 million was received.

The fund has been established by the SBP on the directions of the Supreme Court (SC). All the commercial, micro-finance banks and field offices of SBP Banking Services Corporation have opened the fund account to receive donations through cash, cheques, pay orders and demand drafts at each and every branch across the country.

The donors can also make online donations to the fund through internet banking, automatic teller machines (ATM) and other alternate delivery channels (ADC) while using the IBAN of their respective bank. The banks have sent the IBANs of the fund account to their clients through SMS alerts, while the bank-wise list of IBANs is also available on SBP’s web page.

Furthermore, the donations can also be made through credit and debit cards from anywhere in the world by clicking the “Online collections for Supreme Court Diamer Bhasha and Mohamand Dams Fund” on SBP’s web page.

The general public can also make donations in cash at over 400,000 branchless banking agents of commercial and micro-finance banks across the country against a proper receipt in electronic or paper form duly confirmed by the SMS alert.

Overseas Pakistanis may deposit their contributions to the fund in cash, cheques, pay orders, demand drafts etc. at the Pakistani missions in the relevant country. They too can make the contributions through credit/debit cards from anywhere in the world.

Overseas Pakistanis having PKR accounts in Pakistan can also make donations through internet banking facility of their respective banks.
