ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Wednesday voted for Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) nominee Syed Khursheed Shah during the election of the speaker and deputy speaker in the Lower House of the parliament.

Both the leading political parties were on the same page after 30 years and converted their enmity into friendship.

As a result, Shah bagged 146 votes out of the 330 members of the National Assembly (NA). The enmity between PML-N and PPP started in 1988 and since then they have been playing a blame game.

Both the parties made attempts to derail each other’s government and also registered political and corruption cases against each other.

Despite signing the Charter of Democracy, both the political parties continued to oppose each other.

In 2008, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif had warned PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari that he will drag him in the streets of Lahore to bring the looted money back after winning the general election.

Similarly, PPP leaders also termed Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif most corrupt politicians in the country.

However, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan’s anti-corruption stance played an important role in bringing both the political parties closer.

In the past three years, PML-N and PPP never agreed with each other’s point of view both in and outside the parliament.
