K-Electric holds tree plantation at St Patrick’s Cathedral

KARACHI: Under its Plant for Pakistan initiative which emphasises environmental sustainability through tree plantation, K-Electric organised a tree plantation drive at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, with newly-appointed Cardinal His Eminence Joseph Coutts in attendance. More than 300 plants were distributed and planted at the cathedral grounds to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence with the message of “Plant for Pakistan.”

Speaking at the occasion, Cardinal Coutts hailed K-Electric’s efforts and said, “The planting of trees is a noble act and anyone involved in tree plantation is playing their part in looking after our common home, the Earth. This tree plantation initiative by K-Electric is a step towards a greener Pakistan and we are grateful to them.”

A K-Electric spokesperson said, “One of the best ways to celebrate Independence Day is by planting a growing flag. As part of our commitment towards a greener and cleaner Pakistan, we have planted more than 100,000 trees already. We are also collaborating with horticultural experts and social sector partners to create awareness of and facilitate tree plantation.”

K-Electric has also collaborated with other institutions including, WWF, NED, Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology and many others under their “Plant for Pakistan” initiative. In addition, the utility’s Bin Qasim Power Station (BQPS)-II is Pakistan’s first ever ISO 50001 and WWF Green Office certified power plant.
