Twin cities celebrate 71st Independence Day with spirit, love for country

ISLAMABAD: Citizens of twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Tuesday celebrated 71st Independence Day with patriotic spirit and exhibited their solidarity and love for the country.

The twin cities wore a festive look all the day as the people thronged to the roads and parks, especially at noon and in the evening. Lake View Park remained special attractions while the Islamabad Zoo and the Ayub Park witnessed exceptional rush as pleasant weather added to joy of the day.

The cities also witnessed a number of functions and rallies held by the political parties to mark the day and renewed pledge to serve the motherland. To celebrate the Independence Day, the political parties held separate events in the twin cities, whereas, the main roads were decorated with national flags containing patriotic slogans with addition of the pictures of national leaders.

A great number of stalls of the national flags and bounties were established at different roads, highways, small streets and markets. The people especially young people and children decorated their vehicles with the national flags and stickers. Besides the government offices, the shops, buildings and houses were decorated to celebrate the national day.

CAKE CUTTING CEREMONY: A special cake cutting ceremony was also held at the New and Current Affairs channel of the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) to mark the Independence Day. Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Barrister Syed Ali Zafar performed the cake cutting ceremony along with Radio Pakistan Director General Shafqat Jalil and others and prayed for the progress and prosperity of the country.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister felicitated the nation on auspicious occasion of the Independence Day, saying that he felt proud on being the member of such a great nation. On independence, “we should have to pledge contributing in the progress and prosperity of the country,” he said. Renowned singer Mulazim Hussain sung national songs on the occasion.
