ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to issue a notification of Naveed Deero of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) as winning candidate from NA-215 Sanghar-I constituency.
A three-member bench of the SC headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar after going through the arguments placed by the litigants suspended the Sindh High Court’s decision of withholding the poll results.
The Grand Democratic Alliance’s (GDA) candidate Khuda Baksh Rajar had challenged the election result of NA-215 Sanghar in the Hyderabad Bench of the Sindh High Court.
The apex court also directed the ECP to notify PPP’s Syed Zulfikar Shah as a winner from the constituency PS-48 Mirpurkhas-II.
The bench heard the appeal moved by the PPP leader challenging the SHC’s decision restraining the ECP from notifying the PS-48 Mirpurkhas election result.
Syed Ali Nawaz Shah, a disgruntled leader of the PPP, had challenged Zulfikar Shah’s victory before the SHC’s Hyderabad division bench.
The SC after going through the arguments placed by the litigants’ counsel suspended the SHC’s decision and directed the ECP to issue the notification of Zulfikar Shah as candidate returned.
