Pakistan to free 30 Indian prisoners on Independence Day

ISLAMABAD: The Government of Pakistan will set free 30 Indian prisoners on August 14, the country’s Independence Day, a Foreign Office statement said on Monday.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal explained the decision to free the prisoners was taken on humanitarian grounds.

27 of the 30 prisoners are fishermen, he clarified.

Pakistan and India celebrate their Independence Day on August 14 and 15 respectively.

The spokesperson expressed hope that India would respond with a similar gesture.
