–Dr Syed Kaleem says police determined to provide peaceful environment for industrial progress
LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Syed Kaleem Imam on Monday ordered the appointment of female inspectors and sub-inspectors as Station House Officers (SHOs) while also directing to appoint lady Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) and head constables as muharars.
In a letter to Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), all Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs), the IGP directed to make the appointments on merit and basis of seniority so that they could get departmental promotions as a result of their hard work and ability.
It was further directed in the letter that highly educated and experienced female police officers should be given key posts in police stations and two-year field postings to make them eligible for inspectors and DSPs on merit, as per police service rule 2008 and 2013. “The practice will minimise the sense of resentment regarding posting and promotions,” stated the letter.
It is pertinent to mention here that the first female DPO of Pakistan, Ammara Atthar, was also deployed by Punjab IG Dr Syed Kaleem in the Bhawalnagar district.
Separately, Provincial Minister for Industries, Commerce and Investment Anjum Nisar called on the IGP and discussed issues pertaining to security.
The minister acknowledged the efforts of Punjab police for maintaining a peaceful environment and said that the police played a vital role in the provision of foolproof security on the polling day along with rendering other services during election activities.
He also said that industrial and financial activities had seen a growth in the province due to the police’s performance in maintaining a peaceful environment.
Speaking at the occasion, the IGP said that the department was determined to provide a peaceful environment for industrial and financial progress and all possible security was being provided to all projects of industry, trade, business and development.
He further said that it was the prime responsibility of the police to provide foolproof security to foreign investors and for this purpose, a modern and trained special protection unit force equipped with sophisticated weapons was utilising all available resources.
