KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari lashed out at authorities on Sunday for withdrawing the security provided to former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani.
The PPP leader asked, “Doesn’t the government not know whether Gillani’s family is on the hit list of terrorists?”
As per media reports, the PPP chairman said, “It should be given in writing that if something happens to Gillani’s family, the provincial government would be responsible.” He demanded to ensure the protection of Yousaf Raza Gillani including all other political leaders.
On the other hand, Syed Ali Qasim Gillani, the younger son of Yousaf Raza Gilani, has expressed concern over the reduction in security of his father and demanded the government to restore full security at the earliest.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, he maintained that the last government had provided security protocol to the former premier, adding that his Gillani family was facing security threats and that his brother Syed Ali Haider Gillani was abducted by terrorists and got released after an operation by US security personnel in Afghanistan.
He further said that the family would move to high court for provision of security.
Earlier, caretaker Punjab government removed the police security of former PM Yousaf Raza Gillani and his family in Multan while six security officials and two security vehicles, deputed at Gillani House Lahore, were taken back by the police department.
