Swabi police foil a bid to smuggle weapons

SWABI: The police foiled a bid to smuggle weapons and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition here on Saturday.

The police signaled to stop a suspected auto-rickshaw in Tordher area of Swabi district but the driver instead of applying breaks, sped and when chased by the police, fled the scene leaving the rickshaw by a roadside in the nearby locality.

The police then searched the auto-rickshaw and cache of arms including 39 pistols, three Kalashnikovs, three rifles, one 44 bore gun, one MP40 gun, dozens of magazines and hundreds of rounds of different bores were recovered.

The police said that the weapons were being transported to an extremist group for terrorist activities but timely action foiled the bid. The rickshaw was impounded by the police and after registering a case against the rickshaw driver has started an investigation.
