Bollywood actors Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra have started shooting for their upcoming film Jabariya Jodi based on the theme of forced marriages in India.

A photograph of the film’s clapboard was shared on the official Twitter page of Balaji Motion Pictures with the caption: “Filming begins for Parineeti Chopra and Sidharth Malhotra-starrer Jabariya Jodi.”

Sidharth and Parineeti had earlier shared screen space in the 2014 film Hasee Toh Phasee.

Sidharth, who plays a Bihar-based gangster in the film, said, “It’s an exciting film for both of us to come back together as a couple on screen. This movie has a mix of humour and good content.”

Sanjeev K Jha, who is producing the film along with Ekta Kapoor on its premise said in a statement, “We always knew such forced marriages happen, but we didn’t know the magnitude of it. I was surprised to see the official data that said that more kidnappings happened in Bihar for the purpose of forced marriage than ransom. It was an eye-opener. It’s hard to believe that such bizarre practices happen in our vicinity even now.”

He continued, “After Tanu Weds Manu, this is a story which is coming from the heartland of India and I love to bring such stories on big screen. It has strong and colourful characters. Parineeti and Sidharth are going to surprise the audience in Jabariya Jodi.”

Directed by Prashant Singh, Jabariya Jodi is scheduled to release next year.
