ISLAMABAD: The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) for the very first time on Friday organised an exhibition since its inception in which it displayed all its recommendations given to parliament since 1962 till last year along with other publications.

The majority of the recommendations cover all aspects of human rights such as family laws, economic system and unique work done by the transgender community for their acceptance in society.

“The main purpose behind organising the first-of-its-kind exhibition is to encourage scholars to choose and select research topics from within the themes taken up by the council during the last 56 years,” CII chairman Dr Qibla Ayaz said.

He added the publications would be shared with prestigious universities having departments of Islamic studies and Islamic legal studies to support them in carrying out their research on important topics.

“The CII claims that it has on its record the opinions of great scholars such as Muhammad Taqi Usmani, Dr Zafar Ansari, Dr Malik Irfani among others,” said Dr Ayaz.

Moreover, the CII had submitted its report in 1995 before parliament on laws invoked before 1973, which is still awaiting acknowledgment. The council members are hoping that the new parliament would help in implementing the recommendations on priority.

The CII chairman told a local news outlet that the council has compiled a detailed report including recommendations/amendments on various family laws among others before 1973 according to its mandate.

Later, the report was submitted to parliament some 23 years ago by the former CII chairman Iqbal Ahmed Khan who served from 1993 to 1997. However, no government gave it importance and ignored the report.

“However now we are hoping that the upcoming government will implement the recommendations on various laws before 1973 given in the report,” the chairman said. He added that once the new government is sworn in, CII will make efforts to form a caucus of senators’ and National Assembly (NA) members for helping and supporting CII in achieving its objectives.
