KARACHI: A pipeline burst at Dhabeji and Gharo pumping station caused suspension of the water supply to several parts of the city on Friday.

A power breakdown at the pumping station caused a 72-inch diameter burst which affected water supply, said a Karachi Water & Sewerage Board spokesperson.

The three areas where the pipeline burst was inundated with water as well.

According to the spokesperson, severe fluctuations in power supply to the pumping station between Thursday night and Friday morning were the reason behind the burst.

The spokesperson added that while repair work has been initiated, water to the city is being supplied from alternative sources.

Keenjhar Lake and Hub dam are the two primary sources of water for metropolis.
