ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has contacted Interpol to bring former finance minister Ishaq Dar back to his country and to issue red warrants after blocking his passport and National Identity Card (NIC).

As per media reports, NAB has prepared the strategy to bring Dar back and his passport and identity card has been blocked under this strategy.

“All sources and legal methods will be used to bring Ishaq Dar back to Pakistan,” NAB said.

The anti-graft body has decided to make contact with the British authorities and has also consulted the headquarters of passport office and immigration to include the name of former finance minister Ishaq Dar in the blacklist.

In December last year, an accountability court had declared Dar an absconder in a corruption reference after the former finance minister repeatedly failed to join the trial, remaining instead in London where he has reportedly been undergoing medical treatment.

Ishaq Dar had left the country last year in October, and since then, has failed to appear in court for cases pertaining to possible embezzlement and nepotism. Despite Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar’s warning to cancel Ishaq Dar’s passport, it has not been revoked because Dar could refuse to return to Pakistan on the plea of cancellation of the passport. Dar’s senatorship was canceled by the apex court last May.
