ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Human Rights (MoHR) has not received the names of focal persons from any province who were to present progress reports of district Human Rights (HRs) committees in order to facilitate the masses.
The district committees have started working in Punjab and Sindh while the names of committee members in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) are yet to be finalised.
An official of MoHR informed that it had been decided that a focal person would be nominated from each province who would then share the progress of these committees with the ministry, however, not a single province has followed the procedure yet.
“We cannot get the information of their progress unless the focal persons are finalised. The selected persons were supposed to contact all the district bodies of their respective province and prepare a final report”, she told APP.
Explaining the criteria of committees she said that each committee was comprised of 12 to 15 members and these committees were assigned to create awareness on human rights issues among the masses besides, ensuring legal assistance for the complainants.
“The provision of basic rights to all without any discrimination was supposed to be a top priority,” she stated.
