KARACHI: Police officials on Friday said a girl was drugged, raped and then subjected to attempted murder at a farmhouse close to the city’s Gulshan-e-Maymar area.
The girl went to the farmhouse with her friends after a domestic dispute with family, said Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Malir Munir Sheikh Abbasi.
The girl unknowingly consumed a cold drink laced with drugs and then raped. The alleged rapist attempted to strangle her to death when she tried to resist.
A verbal spat occurred when other members at the event tried to stop the assailant.
Three of the girls’ friends were arrested when police arrived on the scene but the girl informed the police of their innocence. The assailant fled the scene before the police arrived, thinking the girl had died.
She has been shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical treatment.
Sindh Inspector General Amjad Javed Salimi has sought a detailed report of the incident.
While an FIR has not yet been registered, the police have initiated investigation into the matter and have conducted raids to find the assailant.
