Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry said on Thursday that party leaders had not selected Raja Yasir as a candidate for the slot of Punjab Chief Minister (CM).
“I will only be able to tell you who will be our candidate for the Punjab CM slot when Imran Khan sahib announces it but for now, Raja Yasir or anyone else has not been finalised for the position,” Chaudhry clarified.
Over a dozen PTI candidates are contesting for the position of Punjab CM. There is a possibility that a little-known candidate may succeed due to lack of party consensus.
During a parliamentary party meeting on Wednesday, PTI chief and prime minister-in-waiting Imran Khan said that the party wants to appoint a candidate who has never been accused of any crime.
According to PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, 164 Members of Provincial Assembly (MPAs) attended the party meeting. They assured Imran Khan of their support to the CM nominee.
The contenders from Central Punjab include PTI Central Punjab President Abdul Aleem Khan, former Punjab Assembly opposition leader Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed, Mian Aslam Iqbal and Dr Yasmin Rashid, PTI Information Secretary Fawad Chaudhry, Sabtain Khan and Raja Yasir Humayun Sarfraz. The contenders from South Punjab include PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar.
