After avoiding comment on Priyanka Chopra’s exit from their upcoming film Bharat, Salman Khan has finally broken his silence and has shared his two cents on the matter.

Speaking at the trailer launch of Loveratri, starring Salman’s brother-in-law Aayush Sharma, Salman said that Priyanka informed them of her decision to leave the film 10 days before her shoot was to begin.

“I am really happy for her. Had we known that she has signed such a big film in Hollywood and known it well in advance, we would not have stopped her from leaving our film. She told us at the very last moment, just 10 days before her scheduled shoot,” he said adding that he has already begun shooting for the film.

Salman further said that Priyanka’s decision to work with a ‘bada hero‘ from Hollywood was her own choice, referring to reports which revealed that Priyanka is set to appear opposite Chris Pratt in Universal Studios upcoming film Cowboy Ninja Viking.

However, Salman was quick to diffuse the tension by saying that the team was supportive of her for doing good work.

“We said, of course, if you don’t want to do it [Bharat], don’t do it. We were given different reasons back then. But whatever the reason may be – the wedding [to rumoured boyfriend Nick Jonas], the movie, or if she doesn’t want to work in an Indianmovie, or doesn’t want to work with me, or work in Hollywood only, these are her reasons. We are really happy and supportive about her doing good work,” he said.

“So what if she doesn’t work here? She is making India proud out there. If she doesn’t work with Salman but works with a big hero in Hollywood, she is making India proud,” he concluded.

Katrina Kaif has now been signed opposite Salman for the film.

Bharat’s director Ali Abbas Zafar announced the news of Priyanka’s departure from the film in a tweet which hinted at the possibility of an engagement.

“Yes Priyanka Chopra is no more part of Bharat and the reason is very very special, she told us in the nick of time about her decision and we are very happy for her…Team Bharat wishes Priyanka Chopra loads of love & happiness for life,” read his tweet.

While the rest of the team appeared to be okay with Priyanka’s decision, a producer of the film, Nikhil Namit, CEO of Reel Life Productions, was miffed over the development and was quoted as saying, “Priyanka told us she had to exit due to her engagement, a few days ago. It was a little unprofessional of her to do it so suddenly.”

However, Priyanka is still going ahead with Bollywood film, The Sky is Pink opposite Farhan Akhtar and later reports claimed that she has also signed for Cowboy Ninja Viking opposite Chris Pratt.
