The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday ordered the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to unseal South Asia Free Media Association’s (SAFMA) office, a local media outlet reported.
Advocate Saiful Malook representing SAFMA Secretary General Imtiaz Alam informed the court that the institute provided training to journalists and is the only one of its type in the region. He further argued that the LDA cannot seal training institutes or libraries in residential areas under its own rules and critcised the move as an attempt at limiting press freedom.
After hearing arguments from both sides, Justice Sajid Mehmood Sethi gave an interim order for the office to be unsealed.
The LDA director has also been required to submit a response before September 13.
