KARACHI: The 10th Independence Day Cup Open Golf Championship 2018 will be held at the windswept, evergreen golf course of Defence Authority Country and Golf Club (DAC&GC) from August 9 to 12.
This was announced by DAC&GC Secretary Brig Muhammad Qasim Changazi (r) addressing a crowded press conference held at the club venue. He said that the Independence Day Golf Championship is an approved event by Pakistan Golf Federation and Sindh Golf Federation and indeed a unique open golfing championship of the country.
Over 200 enthusiast golfers from all over the country will participate in different categories including professionals, senior professionals, amateurs, seniors, veterans, ladies, juniors and masters; revealed Secretary DHA Golf Club. He said that the tournament carries a prize money of Rs 2 Million which will be contested by professionals and senior professionals. He elaborated that the main match will be played over 54 holes for three days by professionals and amateurs (H/Cap 12 and below).
Last year’s champions Shabbir Iqbal and Zohaib Asif will defend their titles in the tournament.
Brig Changazi (r) said that DAC&GC by holding the tournament is not only celebrating the Independence Day of Pakistan with enthusiasm and fervour but also providing a reinvigorated support to the exciting game of golf which needs further exposure and involvement in the country. He reiterated that DHA Golf Club is all set to hold the prestigious golf tournament at the national level in a befitting manner.
