QUETTA: The Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Tuesday rejected a petition filed by Hazara Democratic Party (HDP) Secretary-General and member of provincial assembly (MPA)-elect Ahmed Ali Kohzad challenging the National Database and Registration Authority’s (NADRA) decision to block his Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC).
A division bench comprising Justice Abdullah Baloch and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan found the petition non-maintainable because the matter of the HDP leader’s CNIC was still pending before the interior secretary.
At an earlier hearing, the Quetta deputy commissioner had submitted an inquiry report pertaining to the matter, which claimed that the MPA-elect was an Afghan refugee.
Moreover, Kohzad’s counsel advocate Humayun Tareen had told the court that Kohzad’s CNIC had been blocked by NADRA without issuing a show cause notice.
On the other hand, a local court issued an arrest warrant against the MPA-elect in a case regarding the murder of a goldsmith, Muhammad Hafeez.
Kohzad has not been arrested so far.
