PML-N fails to win PPP support for Punjab government

Decision by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) to sit on the opposition in the Punjab assembly has rendered it difficult for the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to form a government in Punjab, a local media outlet reported on Saturday.

While the PML-N, the PPP, MMA and the ANP have agreed to field joint candidates at the centre, PML-N’s failure to obtain PPP’s support means that the party would have little chance of forming the government in the most populous province.

Former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani is currently heading a six-member PPP committee in order to discuss the formation of governments in Punjab and at the federal level.
