ECP receives election expenses details of successful candidates

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has received details of election expenses of successful candidates in the National and provincial assemblies.

The ECP has received details from 269 National Assembly (NA) candidates, 295 Punjab Assembly candidates, 129 from Sindh Assembly, 97 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and 49 from Balochistan.

The details will also be published on the election body’s website.

The ECP after receiving the details has started working on issuing a notification declaring successful candidates, except in those constituencies which have been challenged in courts.

The ECP will likely issue the notification by August 7.

The independent wining candidates would join any party from 7 to 10 August 2018. The announcement of successful candidates on women reserve and non-Muslim seats would be made on August 11.

The meetings of national and provincial assemblies would be called after issuing of notification of successful candidates. After the successful conditions are notified, independent candidates will have three days to join a party.  The strength of all political parties in the national and provincial assemblies will be determined by August 7, after which the ECP will issue notifications of successful candidates from reserved seats.  Assembly sessions will be called after the electoral body will have notified all successful candidates.

ECP DIRECTS POLITICAL PARTIES TO SUBMIT ASSET DETAILS BY AUG 29:

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has directed all the political parties to submit a consolidated statement of their bank accounts for the financial year 2017-18 by August 29.

According to ECP, the political parties, in terms of section 210 of the Election Act, 2017, are required to provide an account of annual income, expenses, the source of its funds and assets and liabilities.

The statement of accounts can be submitted in Form-D prescribed by the Election Act, 2017. The printed forms are available at the Election Commission Secretariat and in the offices of the provincial election commissioners.

Prescribed forms can also be downloaded from the ECP’s website. The commission said that statement shall be delivered to the secretary ECP in its Secretariat through office-bearer of the party, duly authorized by the party leader.

As per provision of rule 156 of the Election Rules, 2017 the statement received through the post, fax, courier service or any other mode will not be entertained.
