ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is likely to get 25 reserved seats for women whole reserved seats for minorities in the lower house of parliament, the provisional results of the elections suggest.

The PTI was successful in gaining a majority of 116 seats in the lower house. The party is expected to be left with at least 110 seats after those who were elected from multiple areas select a single constituency.

It has the largest chunk of 15 reserved seats for women in the National Assembly (NA) from Punjab followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) with seven seats and Sindh with three.

It is worth mentioning here that the tally of reserved seats could be changed with the inclusion independent legislators in the party.

Out of 342 NA seats, 60 are reserved for women while 10 for minorities that are distributed among parties under a defined formula [total NA seats multiplied by obtained seats and reserved seats] and in proportion to their victory on directly contested NA seats in each province.

A total of 10 NA seats have been reserved for minorities. The seats for minorities are not allotted on the basis of representation in provinces.

In the house of 272 directly contested seats, a seat reserved for minorities could be obtained by winning 27.2 general seats in NA.

Pakistan Muslim League is likely to get 14 reserved seats for women while Pakistan People Party is likely to get 9 seats in NA. PML-N and PPP are likely to get two seats reserved for minorities.

The notification of reserved seats will be issued after issuing notification of candidates declared successful on general seats.
