ISLAMABAD/ LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPA-elect Malik Nadeem Abbas, who allegedly tortured police officers and held them hostage in Lahore, surrendered to police on Sunday.
The surrender came hours after Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar took notice of the incident and directed the Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kaleem Imam to arrest him.
The CJP had taken notice of the incident in Lahore’s Hanjarwal area on Saturday night after the PTI MPA-elect, who returned on a provincial assembly seat, PP-161, and his aides had physically assaulted Hanjarwal Station House Officer (SHO) Rana Afzal and other policemen.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Maaz Zafar had told the media that the security officers led by SHO Afzal were dispatched to Bara’s residence after reports of aerial firing were received.
Zafar had added, “Upon reaching the scene, the SHO and his men were physically assaulted by Bara, who, along with his aides, tore their uniforms and fled the scene right after.”
The wounded had been shifted to Jinnah Hospital for treatment while the suspects had been booked for attempted murder and charged under the Terrorism Act.
