Chief secretary gives credit to LEAs for peaceful elections

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Secretary (CS) Major (r) Azam Suleman Khan while presiding over a high-level meeting on Friday said that in view of security apprehension in the province, the task of holding general elections was a very big challenge, however, the law enforcement agenies (LEAs) including Sindh Police, Pakistan Army, Pakistan Rangers and other security institutions tried their best controlled the law and order situation to ensure the peaceful accomplishment of the election.

The meeting was held at Sindh Secretariat which was attended by IGP Amjad Javed Saleemi, Provincial Election Commission Muhammad Yousuf Khan Khatak, Board of Revenue (SMBR) Senior Member Dr Iqbal Durrani, Home Secretary Haroon Ahmed Khan,  Health Secretary Dr Usman Chachar,  General Administration Secretary Sajid Jamal Abro, Services Secretary Riazuddin Qureshi, Implementation & Coordination Secretary Mohsin Shah,  Karachi Commissioner Muhammad Sualeh Farooqi, Additional IGP Mushtaq Maher and other senior officers, while all divisional commissioner and DIGs also participated through video link.

The CS lauded the role of Caretaker Chief Minister Fazal-ur-Rehman, asserting that guidance and his advice on key issues valuably encouraged them to do the needful in conducting the polls sufficiently.

He noted that the voting turn-out remained better in the province under the coordinated efforts of LEAs and security institutions who assisted the civil administration in this regard with the specific reference of comparison of other provinces as the province has been witnessed better than all in compliance of code of conduct of general election, as well all administrative arrangements including provision of missing facilities installation of CCTV cameras and timely action on reports, also carried out properly.

He also thanked IGP, PEC, all administrative secretaries, divisional & deputy commissioners, DIGs, SSPs and all other stakeholders in appreciation of their electoral services.  He also called comprehensively reports from the divisional commissioners and DIGs regarding issues and difficulties in the election task within a week.

IGP Also, he appreciated the administrative and security arrangements and the provision of staff by the Sindh government and Karachi commissioner for their exemplary role.

He also commended the services of all stakeholders, said that the recent election was the most peaceful in the 30 years history of Pakistan.
