Three security personnel among four martyred in Turbat rocket attack

QUETTA: At least three security personnel and a civilian were martyred while 13 others were injured when a military convoy on election duty was attacked in Turbat on Tuesday.

According to initial reports, the convoy was targeted by unknown assailants while it was stationed near a polling station established in Mund area. The injured have been shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Turbat while the area has been cordoned off and an investigation is underway.

The attack is the latest incident of violence in the run-up to the elections. On July 22, at least 30 people were injured in a hand grenade attack that targeted the election office of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) in Dalbandin area of Chaghi district.

According to police, party workers and supporters of BAP candidate Amanullah Notezai were sitting in the election office in Killi Khuda-e-Rahim when unidentified men on a motorcycle attacked the election office using a hand grenade. The grenade exploded inside the office, injuring workers and supporters of Notezai.

On July 13, BAP leader Siraj Raisani was among the 149 martyred in a terrorist attack. Over 200 others were injured in one of the deadliest attacks in the country’s history.

Meanwhile, the border crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan at Chaman was also closed by the government earlier today for two days due to security concerns in the wake of general elections in the country.
