People to cast vote on performance basis: Miftah

ISLAMABAD: Former federal minister Dr Miftah Ismail has urged the people to cast vote to those political parties who had served the country and masses during their tenures and it was manifesto of the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) as well.

The outgoing PML-N government had worked for the development and prosperity of the country by initiating many projects and would get votes on the basis of such performance and prudent policies, he said while talking to a private TV channel.

Dr Miftah said that the party had always talked about sanctity of vote and would win the general election with majority. He said that there was no comparison between former Punjab government’s performances with other provinces.

He said that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) could not deliver for welfare of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said that PTI chief Imran Khan was claiming about providing immense jobs to unemployed youth and questioned that how many jobs his party had provided to youth in the province.

The former minister said that his party’s last government overcame power load shedding and executed many power projects. He said that the national economy was strengthened due to its policies. Miftah said that the Grass Domestic Product (GDP) growth was enhanced to a great extent during the PML-N’s tenure.

Talking to another TV channel, Senator Dr Musadik Malik said that the last PML-N government had produced over 10,000 megawatts energy from hydel, wind, solar and coal resources. About 10,000mw electricity had been added to the national grid during the five year period of the last government.

He said that the PML-N government had acquired the land for construction of the Bhasha Dam so that the water reservoir could be utilised for generating electricity besides meeting demand of agriculture sector. “We had transmitted 21,000mw electricity during a short period of time but there was a problem in transmission lines, which he said needed to improve for avoid tripping in the system.

To a question about construction of the dams, he said that potential was available in the Indus water to achieve the objectives. Dr Musadik said that construction of water reservoirs would be given top priority if the PML-N comes into power after this election. To another question, he said that there was need to bridge the gap between demand and supply besides improving the transmission lines for providing uninterrupted power.
